City Trip to Warsaw (Poland)

This is not what I'm searching for. Written on 21-06-2011 by Kim87

Have you already seen Paris, Rome and Barcelona and are you ready for an entirely new city trip? Then go to Warsaw, the capital of Poland, and enjoy the beautiful structures, the friendly people, the gorgeous parks, and of course the delicious food!

Churches

Poland has a few more religious people than we seem to have in many other European countries at the moment. This can be seen from the full churches on Sunday, but also from the weddings which are constantly taking places there on other days! From Warsaw's beautiful historical centre you can visit the Holy Cross Church, where the heart of the world-famous composer Frédéric Chopin is kept, among others. St. Anne's Church is located on the Castle Square, also beautiful to see. In addition, next to this church is a tower, which you can climb for little money. The view from the tower is amazing.

Beautiful view

You will have an even higher, more beautiful and better view over the city if you go to Marriott Hotel's skybar. From the 40th floor you can enjoy the many lights which light up the city at night, or you can watch the great amount of traffic which keeps the city very lively during the day. The Palace of Culture and Science (across from the Marriott Hotel) is also worth a climb. This gives you a view of so incredibly many beautiful places in the city, that you don't know where to look!

Walking

If you feel like going for a walk or escaping the commotion of the city, there are plenty of choices. For example, go to the beautiful Wilanow Park, on the edge of the city. There is also a gorgeous museum, where you can admire many rooms and paintings from earlier days. Also very beautiful is the Łazienki Palace, also called the Baths Palace. You can have a lovely walk around this Neoclassical palace, feed the ducks and enjoy the beautiful architecture.

Shopping

You can stare your eyes out in the large mall Arkadia. Because of its countless of floors, shops and places to eat, you can easily spend a day (or more) here. Perhaps even more impressive is Zlote Tarasy, or Golden Terraces. In this ultramodern shopping and entertainment centre (across from the Palace of Culture and Science) you can shop, eat, drink and go to the cinema. There are even offices and a hotel in the grand building which looks like a true piece of art.

Eating and drinking

Are you ready for a cup of coffee during your city trip in Warsaw? Go to the Coffeeheaven. This well-known coffeeshop can be found on nearly every corner in the centre of the Polish capital. The best coffee and tea and also delicious pastries: you can get it all.

The tastiest chocolate (milk) can be found in the shops of Wedel. You can try chocolate milk with all kinds of flavours (from strawberry to coconot and from rum to nut), but you can also enjoy a lovely chocolate fondue.

As far as supper goes, you can find anything in Warsaw. Moreover, in general the food is much cheaper than in Dutch restaurants. True Polish meals are scooped out bread with soup in it and pierogi, dumplings filled with savoury or sweet content. You can eat pierogi with cheese, meat and cabbage, but also with cream cheese or fruit.
